Here And There...

We get a snow storm or two most winters in Portland, though it melts a day or two after. 2008 has been different: it started in mid-December and kept falling and stayed cold. Mere and Lauren snuck in between fronts before they closed the airport down...Winter Wonderland, indeed!

Hanging out in Santa Monica--Mere entered as a freshman at Santa Monica High School (SaMoHi) 09-09-09. She loves it and loves her classes and the fact that her Class of 2013 is SaMo's Centennial Class. She'll be 15 on 11/27/09...and driving in a year after that. YIKES!

"Twilight"...there are vampires up here. Lauren took Mere and a friend to the red carpet for the LA Premiere. I came down the next day and we played hooky at an opening day matinee. Over Christmas, we went to the Carver Cafe, where they filmed all of Charlie and Bella's dad-daughter diner scenes. They're filming the sequel elsewhere, but, at least I won't have to read the books...

No doubt, we love to eat: spicy foods from Taco Carts; dim sum in Portland's Chinatown or Monterey Park; farm picked produce from Sauvie Island or the Santa Monica Farmer's Market-- you name it. Mike's palate is only slightly more adventurous than Mere's. She's started to experiment with cooking and preparing dinner--a true comfort.

Mere and I went to DC a few years ago...I bored her with my old haunts and Smithsonian museums. We stayed not too far from my old house on the Hill. She loved shopping in Georgetown and the pandas at the National Zoo. Thanks to Congressman David Wu's Office for great hospitality. Wish we'd made it back for the 2009 inauguration. They're exciting--I was there in 1981!

Europe post-election was amazing: Amsterdam, Istanbul and Paris were great fun and the World loves us again. By far the most fun was visiting my sister Kathy in Paris and her family, Malene, Olivia, and Claira. I needed a vacation!
