Here And There...

We get a snow storm or two most winters in Portland. Mere and I go sledding in Washington Park, which rises in the West Hills just above town. The elevation rise is enough to produce deep snow when nothing sticks in town. This Radio Flyer was fast!

Fall 2007: Hanging out in Santa Monica--Mere started at Lincoln Middle School in the Santa Monica-Malibu School District. She loves it and made fast friends fast. Mike enjoys visiting often, Lauren's hospitality, and running on the beach, an old haunt. She'll be 14 11/27/08...and driving in two years after that. YIKES!

Meredith started her soccer career with the Rainbow Raptors and then the Cool Cats. She loved her coaches and team mates and they were formidable on the field. We also keep active mountain biking in Forest Park, hiking on West Hills Trails, and swimming at Sunset Summit. She's now moved on to playing in a Parks & Rec. basketball league, in which she is known for her aggressive defense...

No doubt, we love to eat: spicy foods from Taco Carts; dim sum in Portland's Chinatown or Monterey Park; farm picked produce from Sauvie Island or the Santa Monica Farmer's Market-- you name it. Mike's palate is only slightly more adventurous than Mere's. She's started to experiment with cooking and preparing dinner--a true comfort.

What a fun trip we had to DC! We stayed near the Capitol, not too far from where Michael used to live. We scouted our trip from the top of the Washington Monument: Georgetown, Dupont Circle, the National Cathedral, the National Zoo, Both Air and Space Museums The Archives, The Pentagon, the Smithsonian Museums, Ford's Theater, and the National Gallery of Art were our favored targets.

Meredith's Tenth Birthday Party (she was born in the wee hours 11/27/94) was a fun sleepover at the Embassy Suites. What a hoot with pizza, swimming, games, cake, and more. What better way to celebrate a decade of progress! Double digit kids ain't so easy anymore...
